About uPVC
Over 90% of European homes have uPVC windows, the product has been used there since the 1970’s. uPVC stands for unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. It’s similar to PVC without the plasticisers added which make it soft and flexible. uPVC is a light, hardwearing construction material which has thousands of applications in construction including spouting and cladding. This material is an exceptional insulator and almost maintenance free making it ideal for the manufacture of windows and doors. Our Aluplast German uPVC uses a UV stabiliser known as the ‘Tropical Mix’. Only 4 people in the world know it’s ingredients and it’s been used in The Middle East for over 40 years. These frames coupled with Viridian Low-E glass are some of the most efficient windows and doors available in New Zealand.
Energy Efficiency H1 Requirements
Are you ready for the new improved window performance requirements for housing in New Zealand? Energy efficiency is top of mind, with the update being one of the first steps in the Government’s Building for Climate Change programme. There are major increases in thermal performance requirements across the building envelope, some of the most significant changes are to window frame and glass solutions. There are now six Climate Zones based on the average climate of each area in New Zealand.
Taranaki
Taranaki is within Zone 2, and from Nov 2022 to 1 Nov 2023 has a transitional R-value of R0.37 during this period, where minimum compliance can be achieved through the use of doubleglazed Low E IGUs in Aluminium frames. Thermally broken aluminium, uPVC and Timber frames with doubleglazed Low E IGUs already meet or exceed the standard.
From Nov 2023 onwards Taranaki's R-value will become R0.46, requiring double-glazed Low E IGUs combined with uPVC frames, such as our Aluplast Ideal 2000 product.
The new standards apply based on the date of the building consent application, however these higher standards can be used from now.
Adopting doubled glazed windows should not just be for compliance, it will help regulate your home , keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter, as well as reducing your energy usage to maintain your home environment.
About Us
Having worked with a variety of window and double-glazing options over the last few years, we realised that life’s too short for bad windows. We felt we didn’t want to compromise any longer and we are sure mother nature and the environment won’t compromise either, so we’ve created a local Taranaki business based in New Plymouth to supply you with the best windows, doors and glass available in New Zealand.
We offer a free consultation service with supply and full install. Our windows and glass are manufactured locally, not imported for your peace of mind going into the future. We look forward to helping you make your home quieter, healthier, more valuable and more energy efficient.
